Night 13 – Vegas Baby !!!

And then, we arrive in Las Vegas. We’ve barely driven by the sign “Welcome to Las Vegas” that we already see a chapel to get married. We’re on Vegas Strip, the famous street with the casinos and the hotels. We’re there!! We’re in Vegas!!! There’s the Great Pyramid of Egypt, the Sphinx, a giant roller coaster in the middle of the street and Paris (with the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and the Grand Palais). There’s also countless luxurious hotels and casinos.

We try to park in a couple of the hotel parking lots, but with our van height, it is not possible. So we go to a parking lot for oversized vehicles thanks to the recommendation of our Breton-Belgian compatriots. The place is right at the heart of the strip and is really cheap but is in stark contrast with the beautiful site we slept in last night… Oh well… We’re in Vegas baby!!

So we go for a walk around the hotels and casinos. We eat in a burger joint where newlyweds have come to dine. We go to a gigantic candy store, a store dedicated to Coca Cola, another dedicated to M’n’Ms and we call it a night. We would have loved to gamble at the casino of our hotel, but Côme being with us, it’s kinda hard. Vegas is really not meant for children…

Morning 14 – Las Vegas

This morning, after a not so relaxing night (there was constant noises in the parking lot), Doo gets up, brushes his teeth and head to the casino to play $10. Meanwhile, Côme and Julia are having breakfast and are imagining him on top of a mountain of dollars… Well… Doo will come back empty-handed, short of $10 in his pocket!! This quick getaway made Julia want to go gamble at the casino too. She also has $10 to play afterall. So we all go there and you know what?! Julia wins for the very first time she plays at the slot machine. Not much of course, about $3, but still… She will end up winning $20 (under Côme and Doo’s encouragement) and she failed to win a mega jackpot of $1600 by the length of a hair…

We then we say goodbye to Vegas and hit the road towards Death Valley…

These past few of days, Côme:
Did not understand: why there were rocks with different colors.
Learnt: that a rock could be multicolored.
Loved: to watch mommy play at the ice age.

Julia:
Did not understand: how wood could become petrified.
Learnt: that Vegas was actually just a street…
Loved: to win at the slot machine and Vegas’ atmosphere.

Doo:
Did not understand: why some parks were National parks while others were State parks.
Learnt: that a salamander had a lumpy skull.
Loved: the different hikes at the Valley of Fire.
