Today we’re going back to the Grand Bazar. This time around, the doors are open. Yes!! Julia was not expecting this. The bazar is not sombre and messy but luminous, luxurious and very much organized. Côme’s eyes are wide open in front of all the gold, diamonds and precious stones shops. He obviously wants to buy some (“Come on! Just a small ingot?!” – “No Côme, that would be the amount of our world trip…”). He even goes into a store to watch the jeweler sort the diamonds with tweezers. Julia ends up dreaming in front of the magnificient dresses and rings. Doo is drooling in front of the candy stalls… We then go on to discover “kunefe”, a local pastry with melted cheese. And to be short… well, we really don’t like it. Côme only likes the ice cream on top of it.
Then we head to the sea to take a look at the Bosphore and motivate Côme a little. He likes to watch boats and ask questions about fishing (“Can we fish here? – “No Côme.” – Are you sure?”) and we go back home for home schooling through the spice market. Côme runs down the slope and tells us: “I’ve spent all my non meticulous energy!” (“a meticulous energy is an energy that is slow and very very difficult”… like the one the jeweler needs to sort diamonds). We thought he was ready for his homework… We were wrong. The start of the school year was difficult on this late afternoon. Tomorrow, we’ll do it in the morning…
Today, Côme:
Did not understand: why the tram stopped without taking any passenger in.
Learnt: that coffee was transforming into poo. (He saw a machine extract juice from black seeds then compress them into things that resembled poo)
Loved : to look at the diamonds, the jewelry and gold from the stalls.
Julia:
Did not understand: whether school was mandatory or not since we saw children work.
Learnt: that the Grand Bazar stalls were luxurious.
Enjoyed: the northern neighborhood of the old town.
Doo:
Did not understand: how the stalls from the Grand Bazar were able to “survive” since there’s about 50 of them in a row selling the same stuff.
Learnt: that there is one melted cheese dish he doesn’t like on this planet.
Laughed: when he saw a teenager on a bike playing dare with a 3 year old girl on a tricycle (she obviously won).
